Christmas Treats

Since coming back from University for the Christmas holidays I have been working on my cooking ability and skills within the kitchen. Seeing as I can only afford the very basics at university (beans, pasta, cheese and sausages), I have been cooking with the delights I found in my mothers fridge. As I’m not paying the bill I thought I would concoct some delicious culinary delights and share them on here…

First Attempt at a Bacon and Philadelphia bap with crusty bread:

The results were delicious but the recipe needs more refinement (more bacon).

Second Attempt:

More Bacon.

These worked much better than before, I cooked the bacon just right, with a soft supple flavour restrained in the meat and the rind almost burnt to a crisp. I chose to serve these in soft white buns with a hot tomato relish, creating perfect contrast between the cool flavours of the Philadelphia cream cheese.

All in all, a roaring success.

Bullet photo shoot

Today I went to the cover shoot for the next issue of bullet magazine, due out in January. As I had helped to organise the model (Bridget) whom I also live with. Organising the model needed to be as quick as possible due to the fact that I had only found out about the shoot from Sam Dowse several days ago. The shoot itself was a huge success, shot by my friend, course mate and talented photographer Christopher Algar.

I can’t do this brief for GD. Maybe after a trip to the pub all will become clear…

I mean, I hate this project. I can’t sleep at night, I can barely function and am having reoccurring dreams about i newspaper and Gaddafi.

Please, someone help me out. Some words of advice would be greatly appreciated.

Book Covers!

As part of our first module for Visual Expression we were given a brief to design the book cover for the novel “one flew over the cuckoo’s nest” by Ken Kesey. With this project I looked at how the characterisation of the main characters were portrayed in the novel, eventually settling on the idea that the main character R.P. McMurphy was a fish out of water. With some strong themes running through the book I wanted to create a stark cover giving an uneasy outcome through the style of image.

I created the image myself by taking a photo of a fish, I wanted to use screen-printing as an analogue technique, as this was my first time screen printing I am really happy with how the final prints turned out and they look great on my cover.

It’s been a long week.

Sorry about not Blogging for a while, it’s been so busy this end with all of our assignments coming to an end at once. This week I have been working 15 hour days in order to get my work for my re-branding project up to scratch, after an appalling crit where my ideas were completely shot down I decided to go back to square one, leaving me 4 and a half days to do 5 weeks worth of research, idea development and final proposals, it nearly killed my but I managed to do it.

On the other side of the course I have been working on my Book cover for Visual Expression, this brief has been a real joy to work on with my ideas flowing freely, I have been able to get some amazing work produced. What made my week (no, my year) was being able to show my book cover work off to David Pearson, it was great to get another opinion on my work and to talk about industry. He was so positive about all our work and seemed impressed with everyone he spoke to. What a nice guy!

Hello again!

First things first, I’m really sorry for not blogging for such a long time! My life has been turned upside down over the past half year, through university workload, my home life, love life and even social life. I feel I’ve got everything sorted out now, back on track and ready to blast out my creative juices with Second year!

This summer I went on holiday with my now ex girlfriend, we took a long weekend in Paris. Just as tourists we saw some amazing sights and it truly was one of the best weeks of my life.

Throughout the summer I worked in a design agency, loving every second. I took part in live briefs, rebrands and even public sector artwork! So I pretty much had a whale of a time.

Also having celebrated my 20^th birthday over the summer I feel like my life now has a direction, I know where I want to go and what to do about getting there. I want to push myself much further this year, stretch myself and to break through my current limits.

Moving back to Lincoln was another point where I feel I grew up, moving away from first year, this year counts and I will do all I can to be at the top of the stack. My passion for design has done nothing but burn within me, I now have nothing holding me back but myself. The potential that grows within me is looking for a chance to prove to myself that I have got what it takes.

Second year, let’s go!

After completing the lost formats brief two weeks ago we were finally released our marks.

I had been feeling slightly restless about my result ever since he had asked me for my work digitally, letting me remove it from the studio and then panicing about where it was.
